Ensure healthier lives for women and children under 5 by strengthening health systems.
Families who live in impoverished Côtes-de-Fer face many challenges. Most live far from health facilities and receive limited care. To access safe water, some women and children walk two hours or more to reach a water source. Over half of all households lack access to a latrine, making proper sanitation difficult. And since most women never received an education, they have limited economic options to lift their families out of poverty.
To serve these communities, CMMB Haiti introduced CHAMPS, our signature Children and Mothers Partnerships initiative—connecting the people of Côtes-de-Fer with health and development aid that saves lives and builds community resilience. In 2024, a team of 42 ASCPs (community health workers) reached over 8,500 families at home with basic care and support.
Health System Strengthening
A strong health system is vital for a community’s future. Working hand in hand with departmental and national health authorities, we support facilities by supplying medicines, medical supplies, and personal protective gear and by training staff to keep their skills current. We have also funded ambulances to enable pregnant women in labor to reach the hospital safely. In addition, we strengthen local, regional, and national health data systems and promote the use of quality data for decision-making and continuous improvement in care.
