Improve the health and lives of mothers and children under 5 by supporting and encouraging economic prosperity.
Families in Côtes-de-Fer face many challenges. Most live far from health facilities and have limited access to care. To collect safe water, some women and children walk two hours. More than half of all households lack latrines, and with 38% of women never having completed primary school, economic options to lift families out of poverty are limited.
Serving these communities is CMMB’s signature initiative, Children and Mothers Partnerships (CHAMPS). CHAMPS Haiti connects people in Côtes-de-Fer with health and development support that saves lives and builds community resilience. The program’s 42 agents de santé communautaire polyvalents (ASCPs)—Haiti’s community health workers—reach between 8,000 and 8,500 families at home with health promotion and basic care.
Sustainable Livelihoods
Education and reliable resources enable women to better care for their families. CMMB Haiti–supported mothers’ clubs teach women essential health information, then funnel interested graduates into mutuelles de solidarité, community-based savings groups whose members pool resources and extend small loans by consensus. Membership now exceeds 900 women, with more than 800 receiving loans to start or strengthen small businesses. For the most vulnerable women—women who lack savings to contribute—CMMB Haiti provides and monitors microloans through an entrepreneurship-focused Ti Kredi scheme.
To address food insecurity, we distribute seeds and seedlings or baby goats, then follow up with practical agricultural training. The most vulnerable families receive monthly food distributions and financial support for school fees.
