Expand healthcare access to more than 75,000 people in an isolated area of southeast Haiti.
CMMB Haiti opened the Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan Center for Health in 2017, establishing a state-of-the-art health center in Haiti’s Côtes-de-Fer community. The new center expands healthcare access to one of Haiti’s most remote populations.
Mercy Health, a Catholic healthcare system headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, funded the hospital’s construction. CMMB Haiti supports the hospital’s ongoing services in partnership with Haiti’s Ministry of Public Health and Population.
The hospital is a critical component of CMMB Haiti’s Children and Mothers Partnership (CHAMPS), our signature initiative focused on maternal and child health and well-being. In a place where healthcare was a nearly impossible distance away, the hospital now offers women a safe place to deliver their babies and receive antenatal and postnatal care. For children, the hospital provides pediatric care and vaccinations.
People in the community can visit the hospital to receive surgical care, pharmacy services, and emergency care. Future plans include adding dental and ophthalmology services. Since October 2023 the hospital has become a site for HIV care and treatment. It was also designated as a “Friendly Baby Hospital” by the WHO.
